Enoch & Elijah

David Weber

1st Aug 2007

Enoch and Elijah have come up in a recent conversation with a brother, and I shared some things with him that very few Christians seem to understand. This might seem like a bit of a digression from the latest writings, but it is something that I feel led to pass on at this time. Please read on, and see what you think... -- D

When I asked the Lord a while back about the apparent contradiction in Hebrews 11; the one that says that Enoch was translated "not to SEE death" and was "not found," and the other that includes him with all those who "died in the faith," the Lord's answer to me was, "The truth can be found in the name of Enoch's son, David."

So I prayed and I meditated on the name “Methuselah” for a while, which at its core means: “When he is dead it shall be sent”…

Well, after only a short time of meditation, this began to look pretty simple and clear to me. That which was to be "sent" when Methuselah died was the flood; a great deluge of DEATH in the earth, and something that Enoch was not "to SEE," so God simply took him. In other words, and the way that it was presented to me (by the Lord), is that Enoch became so pure in his walk with the Father that he would have gone on living for a very, very long time. Because of this, and because it was not in the Father's plan for Enoch to live on into the time of Noah's flood (to be swept away in the food, or to be on the ark), God simply took him away somewhere -- to die a normal physical death, most likely. The scriptures simply say that Enoch was translated and was "not found." They nowhere say that Enoch never died.

In regard to Elijah, it also appears that he was translated away somewhere to die as all men do, but "not be found," even as Enoch. I'll cut right to the chase here ...

Several years AFTER Elijah was supposedly "taken away to heaven," king Jehoram actually received a letter from Elijah! (2 Chron. 21:12). I had to do a little math on this one, but it seems that about 4 years after Elijah was supposedly "raptured away into heaven" he actually wrote a letter to king Jehoram in which he rebuked the king for acts of wickedness that took place AFTER Elijah was taken away! In the letter, Elijah speaks of these wicked things as PAST events, and of the punishment for those things as yet FUTURE. So the idea of some, that Elijah wrote the letter BEFORE he was removed by the whirlwind, is simply proved wrong...

The truth of all of this, as I understand it, is that Elijah was taken away into the heavens (the sky) by a whirlwind and set down somewhere simply "not to be found." I see this as a merciful and loving act of the Father, as Elijah had been used by God as head or leader of the sons of the prophets, but God wanted Elisha to assume that leadership, so he had Elijah pass his mantle on to Elisha. Now for Elijah be put in subjection to Elisha before the people would have been a great humiliation for him, even seen by some of the prophets as a demotion for Elijah, so God simply "took him" to spare Elijah, the great prophet, the humiliation.

Now, some other questions arise in my mind whenever I discuss these two men of God who "were not found." These are; just how does Moses, who's body also was "not found," fit into all of this? What's up with these three guys anyway, and what do the three of them represent to us upon whom the end of the age has come?

Well, I think that they might just represent some saints (even the end of the age witnesses) who, though they die, will not see physical corruption. Might this be "The sure mercies of David," a promise given to God's holy first-fruits? It just could be.

As far as I see it, Jesus is the pattern for everything, including resurrection, and He didn't escape physical death to be resurrected, but rather passed right on through it into an immortal and incorruptible state. Jesus "wasn't found" either, beloveds! His tomb was empty! Might this bespeak of something that God is going to do with us, too? Might there be a people in the earth today who, though they pass on through a physical death, cannot be held by the grave long enough to even see corruption? Might there also be a people in our generation who will "not be found" (in a corrupted/decayed state) because they will have RISEN into a much higher state of spiritual flesh, even as Jesus did, and for which Enoch, Elijah, and Moses are picture types? I think it could be so.

It seems to me that there is a time coming for the church when those who come to the salvation of their souls (full death to self) will die a physical death but will not see physical corruption. It seems to me that these will pass on into the fullness of immortal resurrected Sons THROUGH DEATH - even as Jesus did. Might this have something to do with the verse "Blessed is he who dies in the Lord from now on"? Maybe.

In sharing these things, you should be able to see the danger in some of the rapture/sonship escape teachings, as they can keep people in bondage to the FEAR OF DEATH, thus keeping them from the full resurrection of their souls, thus keeping them out of the first resurrection (that "love not your life unto death" thing is a real rub for some folks).

Another thing to consider in all of this, is that Jesus, after His bodily resurrection to a state of "flesh and bone" didn't minister to unbelievers, but only to His disciples. As He is the pattern for everything, just what does that mean for us?

I think that this might mean that many of the modern day concepts of the ministry of the manifested Sons of God could be wrong. I think that this means that we need to gain some more understanding into the ministry of a "Tabernacle of David" people; God's chosen means to bring the "residue of men" to Himself during the Kingdom Age.

As Christians, and as those upon whom the end of the age has come, we should really think and pray on these things. Many things are not as we've thought or have been taught, and we need to hear now just what our heavenly Dad has to say about all of this.

May our Dad give you ears that can hear Him.

In Christ's love,

David
